Photo and description

The water tower is one of the main attractions of Svetlogorsk. The total height of the famous tower of the marine spa is about 25 m.

In 2008, the water tower celebrated its 100th anniversary. From the middle of the XIX century. until the first half of the XX century. in East Prussia, a huge number of water towers of different architecture were erected, but the most beautiful of them is the tower in Raushen (now Svetlogorsk). It was built in 1900-1908 by the talented architect Otto-Walter Kukkuka. The buildings of the hydropathic establishment with a tower, made in a romantic architectural style, have become the central organizing building, the dominant feature of the dune part of Rauschen. The marine hydropathic establishment met all the necessary requirements of the spa treatment of those times. The tower, around which there was a small square, served as a town hall.

In addition to warm carbon dioxide and sea baths, in the marine hydropathic establishment it was possible to take therapeutic massage, mud and electrotherapy. The bath water came from a reservoir, which was filled with water directly from the sea using a pipeline and a pump. Under the very roof of the water tower there was an observation deck, from where a striking view of the red roofs of the city's villas and the sea was opened. Unfortunately, the site has been closed recently. In 1978, a sundial was installed on the tower, organically fitting into the overall appearance of the building. The author of the sundial was the monumental sculptor N. Frolov.

Today the water tower with a hydropathic establishment is the hallmark of the city of Svetlogorsk. Currently, the building of the tower belongs to a mud baths, where you can take coniferous, carbonic, sodium chloride, pearl and other baths.
