Mogilevsky " Stargazer " - not only the largest and most original sundial, but also the world's only monument to the Stargazer.

There is a wonderful place in Mogilev - the Square of Stars. The most native and brightest stars of the city are lit here. It is customary to immortalize the names of honorary citizens in the form of stars. Previously, this most important city square was decorated with an ordinary sundial in the form of an inclined tube in the center of the dial.

The city fathers conferred for a long time, coming up with something original and unique, and decided to invite the author of the most humane and kind city sculptures Vladimir Zhbanov (unfortunately, now deceased) to implement the project. If you have ever been to Belarus, you probably saw his hospitable bronze characters: The Station Keeper, the Lady with the Dog, the Photographer, the Girl with the Umbrella, the Lady on the Bench, The Crew and other naive and funny, sad and joyful bronze citizens of Belarus.

The Stargazer, pointing his finger to the sky, sits on a high chair, preparing to observe the starry sky through a telescope, which is a gnomon (arrow-pointer) of a sundial. At night, a searchlight built into the telescope turns on, which is visible from space and is able to show aliens from distant planets the most beautiful area of a small and proud state. Around the Stargazer there are 12 chairs according to the number of zodiac signs.

Legends about the Astrologer have already spread in Mogilev. One of them says that Zhbanov allegedly consulted with some knowledgeable astrologers about the location of the sculpture on the square, and the Astrologer contains a certain secret of the stars, which allows one, but the most secret and cherished desire to be fulfilled for a person who has sat down in the chair of his zodiac sign. Another legend says that due to its location, the Stargazer condenses the energy of the cosmos. If you touch his finger, it will bring good luck in all your endeavors and deeds.
