Photo and description

Unter den Linden street is considered the main and one of the most popular in Berlin. The origin of the name is due to an unusual past and is directly related to trees, because the translation from German means “under lindens.”

In 1647, by order of Friedrich Wilhelm, thousands of walnut and linden trees were planted. They were arranged in 6 rows, which ultimately significantly ennobled the bare area along which the path from the king's castle to his hunting grounds, located in the Tiergarten, ran. Subsequently, the lindens were seriously looked after, they were guarded and even pigs were shot if they ran there from neighboring villages so that they could not nibble on the bark of still young trees.

Unfortunately, the 20th century was a period when lindens were exposed to several times felling. First, during the construction of the metro in preparation for the 1936 Olympics, and then during the war years, when they were used for firewood. Despite the fact that the trees were cut down, later new and young lindens were planted in their place. They are now regarded as Berlin's green treasure and treasure. In order for each tree to have the possibility of full-fledged growth, a system of individual feeding and watering is brought up to them. This is due to the fact that five types of linden trees have been planted on Unter den Linden Street, which have their own fertilizers, medicines and appropriate care.

In 1770, the alley was rebuilt, when, by order of Frederick the Great, instead of 44 old houses 33 mansions were erected, which had a very noble and majestic appearance. After this event, the luxury on this street only increased every year. Currently, Unter den Linden attracts numerous tourists with its beauty. The length of this street is 1390 m, a large number of historical and architectural monuments, as well as hotels and restaurants are concentrated here.
