The Cathedral of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women is a Russian Orthodox church located in the beautiful city of Baku. The cathedral was erected in 1909. The author of the project was the Russian architect F.M.Verzhbitsky. Funds for this project were allocated by the Russian Ministry of War and local merchant G.Z.Tagiyev.

From the very beginning of its existence, the cathedral had the status of a regimental, being subordinate to the 262nd infantry reserve Salyan regiment. Prior to this, the infantry regiment used the old regimental Archangel Michael Church in the central part of the city, which has also survived to this day. In 1920, the temple was closed one of the first. Initially, it was used as a warehouse, and then as a sports hall. During the events of January 1990, two shells hit the church bell tower, as a result, it partially collapsed, the walls cracked, the floor sagged, and the roof collapsed. In 1991, the building of the cathedral was transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church.

The restoration of the dilapidated temple began after the founding of the bishop's chair in Baku. Thanks to the initiative of His Grace Alexander, Bishop of Baku and Caspian, restoration work was carried out in the church. Its solemn consecration took place in May 2001. At the same time it was awarded the status of a cathedral.

The second life of the cathedral began thanks to the attention of the Azerbaijani philanthropist A.S. Kurbanov, at whose expense a number of complex repair and restoration works were carried out in the cathedral: a stone carved iconostasis was erected, murals were made and church utensils were purchased. The renovated cathedral was opened in March 2003. In April of the same year, Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople donated to the Cathedral a particle of the relics of the Apostle Bartholomew. In addition, the Cathedral of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women also houses the holy icons of the Mother of God - "Caspian" and "Tikhvin".
