If, walking around Barcelona, going down the Rambla, you can go to the embankment, where a monument to the greatest navigator Christopher Columbus, who made a grandiose sea voyage, is erected on Portal de la Pau square to the shores of another, previously unknown continent - America and safely returned to Spain after its discovery.

The monument was erected at the time of the first World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1888. The tall column is crowned with a 7.2-meter-high statue of the great navigator, created by the sculptor Rafael Atch é. The master depicted the discoverer pointing with his right hand towards the New World, and holding a scroll in his left hand.

Inside the column on which the statue of Columbus rises, there is an elevator, where you can climb to the top of the monument. There is an observation deck here, with a stunning view of the port and the Old Town.
