The title in English is Opera Baltycka. Photo and descriptionThe Baltic State Opera is an opera house located in the Polish city of Gdansk. The very first performance was staged in Gdansk in 1646 during the visit of the Polish Queen Maria Ludwiga. It was the opera “The Wedding of Cupid and Psyche”. After that, all the performances known in those days were given at the opera house: “The Magic Flute”, “Ring of the Nibelungen”, “Don Juan” and many others. World War II, all theaters were destroyed in Gdansk, then an opera studio was organized, which began to give away performances in different places of Gdansk and Sopot, without having its own permanent opera house. The first season formally began in 1950 with an opera “Eugene Onegin” by Tchaikovsky. Since 1952, in addition to opera performances, ballet has appeared in the repertoire. The first ballet production was “The Four Seasons” by Glazunov. In 1953, the opera studio merged with the local Philharmonic Orchestra into one institution under a single management, it was renamed the Baltic State Opera and Philharmonic Theater. Over the years of cooperation, the number of opera performances has increased, while the number of concerts has decreased accordingly. This situation continued until 1974, when a new symphony orchestra was created, although both orchestras remained under the same roof. Finally, the Baltic State Opera and Philharmonic Theater was split into the Opera House and the Frederic Chopin Philharmonic in 1994. In the 2009/2010 season, the Baltic Opera celebrated its 60th anniversary.
