The Luostarinmaki Open Air Crafts Museum is located in a unique handicraft quarter in the center of Turku, near the Vatiovuori hill, which has preserved the natural environment of ancient handicrafts.

At the end of the XVIII century. - the beginning of the XIX century. the area, built for the lower classes, which included artisans, was a slum. But over time, the city grew and turned Luostarinmaki from the outskirts into the central part, where the folk craft museum is located today.

Wooden workshops and residential buildings tell visitors about the life of Finnish artisans in the 19th - 20th centuries. On the territory of the open-air museum you can see the house of a sailor, carpenter, tobacco manufacturer, a watch workshop, as well as a residential building from 1960. and a one-room apartment of the people who lived in this place. It has its own post office and a small shop selling sweets made according to old recipes and handicrafts.

At the end of August, the Museum annually hosts International Crafts Weeks. In 1984 Luostarinmaki was awarded the International Tourist Prize “Gold Apple” for the uniqueness and authenticity of old buildings that make up a single whole with their historical location.

Luostarinmaki is an amazing place for tourists, where after a fascinating walk through the protected area, you can sit in a cozy restaurant tasting national dishes of Finnish cuisine - venison steak or baked fish.
