Photo and description

The memorial complex "Monument to the Fighters of the Revolution" is located in Lugansk on Karl Marx Street, opposite the "Trophy Tanks". The complex itself consists of marble slabs, columns and sculptures. Also, an eternal flame burns near the monument. The sculptors of this historical complex are Artyushenko N. A., Manannikova M., Lokotosh A. F., Tkachenko V. I., Tregubova L. P.

This memorial complex was opened in 1937 in November, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the 1917 revolution. During the Great Patriotic War, this memorial complex was destroyed. And the monument was restored only in 1944.

The monument is decorated with two unique British tanks. There are only a few analogues of such tanks in the world. Both MK-5 tanks were produced in Britain in 1917-1918. During the Civil War, they were involved in battles by Denikin's troops. After they were captured by the Reds and became part of the first tank detachment of the Red Army. In 1938, the tanks were decommissioned and dismantled. And later, on the initiative of K. Voroshilov, who at that time was the People's Commissar of Defense, the tanks were transferred to different cities of the Soviet Union and, in particular, to the city of Lugansk for use as historical monuments during the Civil War. After a wave of criticism against Voroshilov, the tanks were under the threat of being melted down, but were rescued in time by the workers of the Lugansk Diesel Locomotive Plant.

In 2009, Mark-5 tanks were completely restored at the local Luhanskteplovoz plant and returned to their original locations.
