Photo and description

There are many cultural monuments in the city of Lugansk, which are of interest not only for the city itself, but for the whole country. Among such monuments, the monument to Prince Igor, which is located in the northeastern suburb of the city of Luhansk, on a pedestal hill overlooking the Seversky Donets River, takes its place of honor.

The monument to the ancient Russian prince Igor Svyatoslavich was officially opened in the urban-type settlement of Stanichno-Luganskoye in September 2003, to the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Lugansk region. According to one of the historical versions, the legendary Seversky Prince Igor began his famous campaign against the Polovtsians, which was described in the "Lay of Igor's Host" from the Lugansk steppe.

All finishing work on the monument took place in record time - three months. The construction of the project was financed from the state budget of the country. The fourteen-meter statue in honor of the famous campaign of Prince Igor against the Polovtsians was made of concrete, painted in bronze.

In 2008, the sculpture of the prince was reconstructed, after which the grand opening of the already restored monument to Prince Igor took place on September 27. The authors of the monument were the architect N. Pozdnyakov, the sculptor G. Mozhaev and the artist V. Gorbulin.

In the future, it is planned to create a large historical and cultural complex "prince's yard" around the monument. The courtyard with the cafes and other buildings located in it will be made "semi-antique", in the style of the time in which Prince Igor lived.
