The Museum of the History of the Republic is one of the most important museums in Honduras - it introduces the history of the people, from gaining independence from the Spanish Empire in 1821, the formation of the state in 1823, until 1975 .

The building that is currently occupied by the Villa Roy Museum was built in the period 1936-1940 by the architect Samuel Salgado. Its customer and first owner was a wealthy American businessman Roy Gordon (hence the name - Villa Roy). The next owner of the house in 1940 was the nationalist politician Julio Lozano Diaz and his family. In 1979, the National Museum placed its collections in the house, which remains in it to this day.

The building is two-storey, with a total of 14 rooms. On the first level, in addition to the hall and dressing room, there are: temporary exhibition hall, cinema, music room, science classroom with wildlife specimens, Lozano Diaz room with furniture and personal belongings. On the second floor there are: themed living room "Introduction to the study of man"; an exposition of archaeological finds from the pre-Hispanic period; an exhibition of exhibits from the colonial era; ethnographic section; cartographic room. The museum's collection contains copies of the 1821 Act of Independence, the sword of General Shatruch, several sabers of the country's generals and presidents, weapons from the Caudillo regional wars, and personal belongings of famous Hondurans.
