"House on the Embankment" has another name - "Government House". It is located on Serafimovich Street. In the early thirties, the house was built according to the project of B. M. Iofan. The construction was supervised by A.I. Rykov. The house is located on an island, two stone bridges lead to it. "House on the Embankment" is located on an area of 3 hectares. This is a 12-storey building with 505 apartments.

"House on the Embankment" was built for the workers of the Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR. The settlement of the house began in 1931. Such famous marshals as Tukhachevsky and Zhukov lived in this house. Khrushchev, famous scientists, writers and security officers lived here. Most of the premises in the house are three and four-room apartments. They are fully furnished with every comfort: hot water, gas and telephone. Upon arrival, the tenants took all the furniture and everything that was in the apartment under the inventory. The interior of the apartments was painted by artists from the Hermitage. The House on the Embankment had a store, as well as a post office, a savings bank, a library, a laundry and gyms, a large cinema and a club. In addition to all this, there were a nursery and a kindergarten for children. The house had a dining room where residents could dine for free.

In the thirties, more than 700 people from this house were recognized as "enemies of the people" and repressed. Many, fearing torture, committed suicide. There are many rumors and legends about the House on the Embankment. One of them is about the eleventh entrance, in which the Chekists lived and listened to everyone who was in the house.

In 1988, a museum of local lore was formed in the house. Currently, the "House on the Embankment" is a historical monument.
