Photo and description

Bad Traunstein is a trade fair town in the Zwetl district in the federal state of Lower Austria. It is home to about a thousand people. The highest point in Bad Townstein is called the Wachstein. This is a mountain 958 meters high, from the top of which a magnificent view of the city's surroundings opens.

Bad Traunstein consists of 14 districts. Some of them are home to only a dozen people. The first written mention of Traunstein dates back to 1361. Ten years later, this ordinary village was the seat of the court.

In 2006, there was competition in tourism between Traunstein and the neighboring village of Ottenschlag. Both of these towns wanted to be called health resorts. Traunstein emerged victorious from the dispute, where in 2008 the Governor of Lower Austria, Erwin Prellen, opened a bathhouse at a cost of 18 million euros. Since then, Traunstein became known as Bad Traunstein.

Bad Traunstein has quite a few interesting tourist attractions. These include the parish church of St. George, which was built in 1959-1962 on the site of an older building. The bell tower and apse of 1730 have been preserved from the previous building, which has now been converted into a side-chapel. The stained glass windows in the temple were created by the artist Albert Birkle.

In 1992, the exhibition center of Josef Elter, a talented sculptor who worked with wood and stone, who until his death was a local pastor, was built on the territory of the Bad Traunstein resort.

Also, tourists for sure love the local windmill, built only of wood and straw in 1926.
