Photo and description

Jermuk waterfall is one of the most striking natural attractions in Armenia. It is located at an altitude of about 2000 m above sea level in the vicinity of the city of Jermuk, in the Vayots Dzor marz. The waterfall, reaching a height of 68 m, is considered the second highest in the country, second only to Kasakh.

According to legend, a long time ago, on the top of a cliff, stood the castle of a local nobleman who had a very beautiful daughter. Many noble young men asked for her hand in marriage, but she refused everyone, because by the will of fate she fell in love with the poor but handsome son of a shepherd. Every night she lowered a rope from her window into the gorge so that her lover could meet her. The father, once learning about this, became very angry and said that if she met him again, she would turn into a mermaid and would never be able to get out of the water again. The daughter did not obey her father and that night, not having a rope, she let her long hair down into the gorge. Then the father's prophecy came true - the girl turned into a mermaid, and her hair flowed down from the cliff in streams of water. Since then, the people call this waterfall “Maiden's Spit” or “Rusalka Waterfall”.

Due to the fact that Jermuk waterfall is surrounded by a picturesque natural landscape of the southern slopes of the Vardenis ridge, it is very popular among tourists. Water, falling from a height in powerful streams, creates a huge amount of white foam below and forms a whole cloud of splashes. This amazing natural phenomenon fascinates with its beauty.

In addition, the waterfall has long been famous for its medicinal properties. High-quality mineral water from these springs contains a variety of chemical elements,
