Photo and description

On the outskirts of the city of Yaremche, in the village of Dora, there is an ancient one-domed wooden St. Michael's Church. The church was erected in 1844 by a local craftsman V. Gnyshik. The temple, built in the 17th century, is partly "the same age" as the Vorokhtyan church. The monastery of the Miracle of St. Michael the Archangel is located on a hill, to which a sloping driveway leads, and then there are paved steps. The entrance to the church, as in most Hutsul churches, is from the side of the cemetery.

The architectural form of the Mikhailovskaya Church is distinguished by a large central frame, completed with a hipped roof with an interception at the base on an octagon, standing on a quadrangle visible from the outside. The lateral volumes are covered with roofs with pediments; a vestibule is attached to the vestibule (babinets). The cross branches are covered with a gable roof, with decorative domes and pediments.

In the interior of the church, you can see ornamental wall paintings of the XX century. Almost all images of the iconostasis, which are carved from wood, belong to the master of the 19th century. This kind of iconostasis and icons of the XVIII-XIX are a masterpiece of spiritual Hutsul culture, and has a high artistic value.

Two or three hundred years ago, the St. Michael's Church was not painted either outside or inside and had a natural ocher color of stained pine , even after its restoration in 1844. At the beginning of the 20th century, the walls of the temple in Dor were completely painted over and painted. In the 1950s, the ornaments of the monastery were restored by a local artist.

In 1946-1990 a community of the Russian Orthodox Church acted in the church. During the time of religious freedom, the church in a picturesque mountainous area was returned to the Greek Catholic community, which is its rightful owner. At the request of the parishioners, the restorers did not return the church to its original appearance, but left a more modern familiar image.
