Photo and description

The Academy of Fine Arts is a state university of fine and applied arts. This is the institution of higher education in Warsaw.

In 1816, the University of Warsaw created the Department of Fine Arts under the leadership of the famous professors Marcello Baciarelli and Sigmund Vogel. In 1831, the University of Warsaw collapsed, and the Russian authorities decided to create a School of Fine Arts. Students of this school took an active part in patriotic demonstrations and in the January Uprising, which led to the closure of the school. However, the interest in the visual arts was so great that a drawing class was created under the guidance of Tsiprian Lakhnitsky. In 1920, it was decided to expand the class to a school of painting and arts and crafts.
