The Botanical Garden in Vladivostok is one of the natural attractions of this city, which is a favorite leisure spot for both locals and guests.

The history of the botanical garden is directly related to the history of Vladivostok. An attempt to create a garden in the area of the Sad-Gorod station was undertaken in the mid-1920s. After the Great Patriotic War, the question was raised of creating in the system of the USSR Academy of Sciences a whole network of botanical gardens, covering all corners of the country. It was then that the Far Eastern base of the Academy of Sciences, together with the local authorities of the Primorsky Territory, took the initiative to create a Botanical Garden in Vladivostok. In April 1946, their initiative was supported. For this, a plot of land with an area of 176 hectares was allocated with perfectly preserved deciduous and black fir-deciduous forests.

In 1970, in connection with the organization of the Far Eastern Scientific Center of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the Vladivostok Botanical Garden was given the status of an independent scientific institution. Already in 1990 the garden received the status of a research institute.

Today the Vladivostok Botanical Garden is the only botanical research institute in the Russian Far East. The Institute conducts research in three scientific areas: biological foundations of plant introduction, anthropogenic changes in the flora and protection of the gene pool of the flora of the Far East of the country.
