Photo and description

The Myndos Gate, part of the city's fortifications, served as the western entrance to the city. They got their name in honor of Myndos - the ancient city towards which they were turned.

In ancient times, the gate had three towers, in front of them there was a protective moat 15 meters wide and 8 meters deep. They were attacked by Alexander the Great when he decided to capture the city. The defenders of the city resisted desperately, but to no avail: the city was taken and destroyed to the ground by order of Alexander the Great. Only the Mausoleum was spared.

The ruins of the side parts have been preserved from the gate. Greek and Roman graves were found next to them. Currently, restoration work is underway here.
