About 25 km south of the eponymous capital of the beautiful Greek island of Rhodes, near the village of Archangelos, there is the famous monastery of the Virgin of Tsambika and its holy relic - the miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary. The Mother of God Tsambika is considered the patroness of all married couples, especially childless ones.

The name of the monastery comes from the word "tsamba", which means "spark, flash" in the local dialect. According to legend, once the islanders saw a sparkling light on the top of the hill. Climbing to the top, they found in the branches of a tree a small, literally the size of a palm, an icon of the Virgin Mary in a silver setting. A little later it turned out that this is the missing icon of one of the monasteries in Cyprus. Several attempts to return the sacred relic were unsuccessful ... the icon miraculously returned to the top of the Rhodes hill. Considering this sign as a divine sign, it was decided to establish a temple here in honor of the Virgin.

So, on the top of a steep picturesque hill, at an altitude of 240 m above sea level, a small chapel of the Virgin of Tsambika appeared, perfectly preserved to this day ... Today, 300 steps lead to the holy monastery and in general the climb is quite tiring, but it is undoubtedly worth it at least just to enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the endless sea and Rhodes.

Much later at the foot of the hill was the monastery of the Mother of God Tsambiki was built - a magnificent snow-white temple, covered with red tiles, with a high bell tower. The miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary is kept here, to which a huge number of pilgrims from all over the world come to worship every year. There is a large copy in the temple on the top of the hill, and the original is raised here only on September 8, on the feast of the Nativity of the Virgin.

The Monastery of the Virgin of Tsambika is one of the most popular attractions of the island of Rhodes and its main shrine. It is here that women desperate to become mothers come from all over the world in the hope of healing from infertility and knowing the joy of motherhood.
