This mountain got its name in honor of a monk who settled here in the 13th century and founded a village on the mountain. He brought with him a miraculous icon of the Mother of God, made by the Apostle Luke.

In the 14th century, the knights built fortifications and the monastery of the Virgin here, where the icon was located.

During the Turkish occupation, the monastery was destroyed. In the 20th century, the Italians restored it and gave it to the Capuchin Order. Now the monastery is not active, and you can only get to the Temple of the Filerim Mother of God, or Moni Filerimu.

The temple is divided into two halves. Once upon a time, one was Orthodox, and the second – Catholic. Moni Filerimu Monastery – this is the place where the two branches of Christianity were able to fit in. Currently, only the Orthodox half is working. Instead of a real miraculous icon, which is now located in St. Petersburg, a copy of it hangs here.

Not far from the monastery, Catholic monks paved the Way to Golgotha. This road is equal to the distance that Jesus traveled when he carried his cross to Calvary. The path goes along an alley surrounded by cypresses. It is marked by structures of stone, proskinitarians, which depict the passion of the Lord. The road ends with a high cross with an observation deck. The cross was destroyed, but later it was restored.

Not far from the monastery, in a small shop, you can buy a special liqueur sold only here. He insists on herbs exclusively from Mount Filerimos. The Capuchin monks passed the recipe for this liqueur to a Greek family.
