Photo and descriptionThe first professional theater was established in Brest in August 1940. It was called the Brest Regional Russian Drama Theater, however, the war interrupted the theater seasons that had begun so brilliantly. Immediately after the liberation of Brest from the Nazi invaders, in October 1944, a decision was made to establish the State Youth Russian Drama Theater named after the Lenin Komsomol of Belarus in Brest. In the difficult post-war years, everyone had a hard time. The building of the Brest Theater was destroyed, the artists huddled in a small one-story house located not far from the destroyed theater. The auditorium was equipped with wooden benches and accommodated only 150 people. The artists, together with the residents of Brest, restored the theater building. The artistic director of the theater was a young talented director Nikolai Mitskevich. In 1949, the Brest and Mogilev theaters were merged. Young artists from other theaters were also invited. This difficult team was brought together by the director and artistic director Yuri Reshimov. The post-war repertoire turned to heroic military drama. On the stage of the theater performances were staged: "Young Guard" by A. Fadeev, "How the Steel Was Tempered" by N. Ostrovsky, "Konstantin Zaslonov" by A. Movzon. The play "Brest Fortress" based on the play by Konstantin Gubarevich became the symbol of the young theater. In the sixties, many interesting innovative directors and actors came to the theater, including from 1964 to 1968 a puppet theater worked here, which was later separated into a separate organization. In 1989, the reconstruction of the theater building began, which lasted 7 years. In 1995, the grand opening took place, after which the performance "The Marriage of Figaro" was given. At the same time, a symphony orchestra joined the theater, and the theater was renamed the Brest Theater of Drama and Music. Since 1996, the theater has been hosting guests at the Belaya Vezha International Theater Festival, in which theater groups from more than 20 countries take part world.
