The Museum of the History of Railway Engineering is located in the Soviet District, near the Seyatel railway station on the Berdskoe highway, which leads from the city center to Akademgorodok. Arrangement of the museum began in May 2000. Dead ends, embankments were made, and rails were laid. The opening of the Museum of the History of Railway Engineering took place in August 2000 to celebrate the Day of the Railwayman.

The uniqueness of the museum lies in the fact that samples of unique technical means, locomotives, passenger and freight cars and track equipment are collected on the West Siberian Railway. In the future, the museum plans to open an exposition dedicated to devices and means of signaling, power supply, communications and other equipment.

The founding of the institution was initiated by the hereditary railroad worker Nikolai Arkhipovich Akulinin. His idea was supported by the leadership of the road. N. Akulinin for nine years headed the museum, which was named after him.

The length of the open-air museum exposition is about three kilometers. In general, more than 100 different exhibits are presented at the exhibition grounds of the museum. In the museum you can see 7 steam locomotives of different production years. The oldest exhibit is a model of the Provorny steam locomotive of the 19th century. The 1912 steam locomotive is also of particular interest. The locomotive was built according to a project developed by the Russian designer Lopushinsky. On the territory of Russia, such steam locomotives were produced until 1923. In addition, in the museum you can see other domestic steam locomotives, steam locomotives made in Hungary and the USA, 15 diesel locomotives, produced in the USSR (1964 -1971), and 12 electric locomotives, which were produced at different times.

In addition to railway equipment, the museum has an exposition of automotive equipment. The collection includes Soviet cars "Moskvich", GAZ, ZAZ, several tractors, trucks, all-terrain vehicles and even an American "Dodge".
