The mining town of Roros is the only Norwegian city located high in the mountains. For 250 years, Roros has been the most important mining center in Norway.

The city has about a hundred wooden houses, and it is a World Heritage Site and is protected by UNESCO. This mining town, a significant part of which belongs to the XVIII-XIX centuries, and today retains many of its distinctive features. The only stone building in the city is a church built in 1784.

The building of the copper workshop now houses the Museum of History and Local Lore.
