Photo and description

Not far from Kristiansand is the Mineral Park, which displays exhibitions of crystals, minerals and samples of mining equipment. For many years, the Norwegian collector Arnar Hanson collected minerals and dreamed that not only he, but also people from all over the world could admire his vast collection.

The Mineral Park is located on the Otra River, in one of the most picturesque corners of the region with its steep cliffs and distinctive culture. The park's exhibition will be of interest to both experts and ordinary tourists who do not have deep knowledge of geology. In fact, the mineral museum is located inside the mountain, and the outside area is occupied by a beautiful park of stones. This is the use of space exhibits and technologies give the Mineral Park in Kristiansand its uniqueness and distinguish it from other similar museums.

The park is located in a rather interesting mineralogical area. For a hundred years, quartz and feldspar have been mined in the surrounding mines for the needs of the porcelain industry.

The exposition consists of 5 halls. The first exhibits minerals mined outside Norway, themed display cases and tables and chairs for group lectures. Local exhibits are presented in a separate room. The museum also displays samples of mining equipment: carts for ore, sleds for fawn spar, tools, miner's outfit, etc. You can even see workers' huts here.

In the Park, visitors can not only walk through the 175-meter long tunnels made in the stones, admiring the sparkling colors of minerals around, but also take a trip to the quarries, go canoeing or fishing.

In the center of the park you will find a themed cafe where you can have a snack at a stone table. Also on the territory of the Mineral Park there are specially equipped places for recreation, souvenir and book shops. For those who wish there is an opportunity to stay overnight in an authentic log house.
