Photo and description

At first, the Romans built a fortress on this place. Its ruins were used to build a new fortress in 1289, which was also destroyed. In the middle of the 15th century, a fortress was rebuilt on the foundations of old buildings, which was reinforced by the corsair Dragut 100 years later. In 1560, the Spanish besieged the fortifications in vain for three months. An imposing pyramid, the Tower of Skulls, was built from the skulls of the slain Spaniards inside the fortress. It was destroyed in 1848 and a memorial sign was erected in its place.

Gazi Mustafa's kubba is located in the inner courtyard of the fortress, where a small exhibition of ceramics works.
