Photo and descriptionThe Art Museum is the main attraction of the city of Kharkov. Today it is considered one of the largest and oldest museums in Ukraine. His collection began to be created back in 1805 by the famous scientist V. Karazin. He acquired a collection of 2477 graphic works by F. Boucher, A. Durer, on the basis of which the city museum was opened. The building that now houses the museum was built in 1912 according to the project of the famous Russian academician and architect A. Beketov, for the industrialist Ignatishchev. The house is designed in a classical style with elements of the baroque. Since 1920, the museum was called the "Church-Historical Museum". Its fund includes the artistic values of the Volyn and Kharkov diocesan depositories, as well as collections of Kharkov University. In 1922 it was renamed the "Museum of Ukrainian Art" and & nbsp; had three departments: architecture, painting and sculpture. In 1934 the collection of the museum was moved to a new building and transformed into the Ukrainian State Picture Gallery. In the postwar years, the museum again received a new name - the State Museum of Fine Arts, and since 1965 it has already become the Kharkiv Art Museum.
