Photo and descriptionVayner Street in Yekaterinburg is one of the oldest and one of the few pedestrianized streets in the city. Locals proudly call it Arbat. The street is located in the Central residential area between Kuibyshev (formerly Sibirskiy Prospekt) and Anton Valek (formerly Bolshaya Syezzhaya) streets, stretching from north to south. At the same time, the street entered two districts at once - Leninsky and Verkh-Isetsky. The pedestrian part of Weiner Street starts from Lenin Avenue and stretches almost to Kuibyshev Street. Under the streets of Radishchev and Malyshev, for convenience, underground passages were arranged. The total length of the street is about one and a half kilometers, with 970 meters of the pedestrian part. The street got its modern name in 1919. It was named after the Bolshevik L. Weiner, killed in the Civil War. And before the revolutionary times, the street was called Assumption, which arose from the Church of the Assumption of the Mother of God. The temple in the Novo-Tikhvin monastery was very clearly visible from this street. Today, only the famous shopping center "Uspensky", located nearby, reminds of the former name of the street.
