Rating: 7,6/10 (100 votes)  The Joseph Haydn House Museum, located in the commune of Rorau, is quite popular with tourists and fans of this famous composer of the 18th century. The opening of the museum took place in 1959 in honor of the 150th anniversary of the death of the composer. Thanks to the creators of the museum, the same atmosphere was created in the house that prevailed even in those distant times when Joseph Haydn's family lived here. In 2009, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the death Joseph Haydn held the Year of Haydn in the city, which was accompanied by live concerts. Joseph Haydn was born in the small village of Rorau in 1732. The composer's mother worked as a cook, and his father, being a craftsman, earned money by carriage business. Quite often, in the evenings, the family gathered guests at their house in order to enjoy music, dance, and also listen to the singing of the head of the family. The children followed in the footsteps of their parents, completely devoting themselves to music. Joseph, with a good sense of rhythm and excellent hearing, soon joined the church choir in Hainburg. Later he was admitted to the choir chapel at the Church of St. Stephen, located in Vienna. Proving himself a talented and hardworking student, Joseph began to receive solo parts. At the same time, the young man devoted himself to playing the violin and the clavichord. At the age of 16, Josef left his home in Rorau. He returned back only in 1795. When the composer lived in the house there was a small bedroom, a living room, kitchen and baroque room. At that time, today's documentation room was used by the composer's father as a workshop. The last years of his life, Joseph spent in Vienna in a small house. After the death of the composer in 1809, his body was buried in the capital. Subsequently, the remains of the composer were transported to Eisenstadt – here Joseph spent most of his creative life.
