Photo and descriptionThe actual foundation year of the Herceg Novi city museum is 1949. Since 1953, the museum has been located in a building bequeathed by the honorary resident of the city, a prominent public figure of Montenegro - Mirko Komnenovic. The exterior of the building characterizes the late Baroque style of the 18th century. The museum's collection contains four different exhibitions: historical, ethnographic, archaeological and a collection of icons. The museum's exhibits include rare archaeological finds such as amphorae, coins, documents, weapons, bas-reliefs, musical instruments and agricultural implements. In addition, the museum is widely presented with national decorations and costumes. The complex of the Local History Museum also includes a park. At its core, it is a small botanical garden, the total area of which does not exceed 1000 sq.m. In the park, you can see a collection of carefully selected subtropical Mediterranean plants. From wild plants in the park grow various types of palms, cacti, agaves, aloes, magnolias, camellias, shrubs and conifers. In addition, there is a plantation of medicinal and herbal herbs typical for the Mediterranean climate in the park. The "Festival of Mimosa" is also held here - an annual holiday for which Herceg Novi is famous not only throughout Montenegro, but also in Europe. It is this plant that is widespread in the park at the Local History Museum. The time of the holiday is one month: from late February to early March.
