Photo and description

Herceg Novi is located literally next to Tivat airport, Dubrovnik is located a little further from the city, and Podgorica is even further 114 kilometers.

Date of city foundation - 1382 year. Initially the Bosnian ruler Tvrtko I named him Svete Stefan. One hundred years after its foundation, the city was conquered by the Turks, whose rule lasted until 1682. In addition, Herceg Novi managed to be in the hands of the Spaniards - from 1538 to 1539. Since 1688, Herceg Novi became the property of the Venetians, who included the city in the land of Albania Veneta.

After the Venetians, the rule of Herceg Novi passed to Austria-Hungary, whose control over the city lasted until 1806. After that, the city was ruled by the Russian Empire for a year, after which the city passed into the power of the French - from 1807 to 1813. Then the power was again in the hands of Austria-Hungary, until 1918. Later in the 20th century, the city became part of the now defunct Yugoslavia. Today, the flag of Montenegro flies over it again.

The old city inside modern Herceg Novi is its heart and soul, where ancient buildings and monasteries are located. Some buildings remained intact even after the earthquake, while others were reconstructed using modern materials.

The old town of Herceg Novi is separated from modern buildings by a road. On the left side, near the embankment, you can see buildings from different eras. Here you can see Catholic and Orthodox churches, romantic narrow streets, old fortresses, from the walls of which you can see magnificent views of the city and its surroundings.
