Photo and descriptionOne of the religious attractions of the city of Nevyansk is the majestic Transfiguration Cathedral. The temple was erected in August 1824 as a parish church near the wooden Church of the Transfiguration, built in 1710 during the Demidovs' time. In 1827, the right side chapel was consecrated in the name of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos. Three years later, the ceremony of consecration of the left side-altar was held in honor of the apostles Peter and Paul. In 1830, the construction of the main central chapel, consecrated in the name of the Transfiguration of the Lord, was completed. According to one version, the famous Yekaterinburg architect M. Malakhov became the creator of the church, built in the style of late classicism, and according to the other, the architect A. Chebotarev. The Transfiguration Church then looked like this. The main part was in the shape of a square topped with five domes. A central round drum with a temple dome was supported from the inside by four stone pillars and arches. Corner domes in the form of a hemisphere rested on the outer walls and small arches. The domes were crowned with gilded copper crosses. In 1851, construction work began on an extension to the church with a bell tower and a stone vestibule with a refectory. The total height of the Transfiguration Church was 64 m, in which it surpassed the inclined tower, the height of which is 57.5 m. In the mid-60s. XIX Art. in the refectory two more side-chapels were set up: the right and the left. The consecration of the right side-altar in the name of Archangel Michael took place in 1864, and the left side - in 1865 in the name of the Monk Sava the Sanctified and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. In the central Preobrazhensky side-altar, you can see a beautiful new gilded iconostasis with twisted columns. All three iconostases are made in the same architectural style - baroque. In May 1912, the Transfiguration Church received the status of a cathedral. In the post-revolutionary years, in 1932, the local authorities decided to close the church and transfer the building to the Nevyansk Mechanical Plant. In the early 40s. work began on its reconstruction, as a result of which the temple lost its original appearance. A new stage in the life of the cathedral began in April 2000, when the governor E. Rossel issued a decree "On the restoration of monuments of industrial architecture in the city of Nevyansk." The consecration of the restored cathedral took place in August 2003 The cathedral has a three-tiered bell tower, eight bells and three thrones: the main one is in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the southern one is in honor of the Most Holy Theotokos and the northern one is dedicated to the apostles Peter and Paul.
