Photo and description

Upsharsky canyon, of course, is one of the most beautiful natural landscapes of mountainous Abkhazia. Located on the road to the equally unique and famous Lake Ritsa, it fascinates with its incredible proportions, strikes with the majesty of the landscapes.

From the village of Bzyb, on the way to Lake Ritsa, after 18 kilometers of constant turns, you find yourself in a gorge with almost half a kilometer vertical walls and no more than 20 meters wide from wall to wall. Two cars hardly drive around in the narrowest place, called the Yupshar gate. The canyon walls, shrouded in clouds, are rapidly rising overhead, and then you understand why this place is called the "Stone Bag".

For almost ten kilometers, it is difficult to take your eyes off the canyon walls, covered with garlands of ivy and beards of moss, in the centuries-old stocky trees you recognize the boxwood, familiar to us only as a shrub, and inevitably think about the passage of time.

The canyon itself is located at an altitude of 400 meters, at the bottom of the gorge, the Yupshara River rumbling with a crystal clear stream, originating in Lake Ritsa and giving the name to the canyon. Of course, it is interesting to rush along the asphalt of the canyon, writing out bends, here every now and then there are blondes driving Mercedes, meeting with whom gives you confidence in your driving skills. But it's better not to fall for illusions! The road is difficult and treacherous, visibility is limited, and at speed you can miss the sights of these places, and there are enough of them here.

Not far from the canyon is the magnificent Gegsky waterfall, a little further, after the Jupsharsky gate, there is another waterfall with an intriguing name "Men's Tears". Do not miss a huge boulder lying right on the side of the road - the "Stone of Kisses" - the guarantor of eternal love!
