The construction of the church took place in the first half of the 6th century AD. It is believed that this church became a kind of prototype of the Hagia Sophia (Hagia Sophia) Cathedral of Constantinople. The mosaic that was part of the original interior decoration of the Kuchuk Hagia Sophia Mosque was destroyed.
