Geography and climate

Salzburg – the capital of the federal state of Salzburg.

The name of Salzburg was given by the Salzach river of the same name, on the banks of which it is located at an altitude of 425 meters above sea level in the Austrian Alps.   The Land of Salzburg is also known as the 'land of warm lakes', of which there are about fifty.

For more than a thousand years, Salzburg belonged to Germany, and only in 1816 came under the jurisdiction of Austria.

Climate in Salzburg is temperate Central European.

Summer is relatively short and cool, winter – long with heavy snowfalls.
