The island of Paros is located not far from Naxos; these islands are separated by a strait whose width is 6 kilometers. Paros covers an area of approximately 196 square kilometers. The island is famous for the marble quarried here.

Parian marble was highly prized in ancient Greece, and many famous statues are made from this material. The most convenient way to get to the island is by ferry service. Ferries to Paros leave from Athens, Santorini, Ios and Mykonos.

There are many cultural and historical attractions on the island. The museum of the famous Greek sculptor Nikos Perantinos opens its doors to its guests in the village of Marpissa. The museum displays famous works of the talented master.

In the city of Parikia, there is such a significant monument of Byzantine architecture as the Church of the Hundreds. Its other names are: Katapoli and Ekatontapiliani. The construction of the church dates back to the 4th century BC, although almost nothing has survived from the original structure. This   temple has been reconstructed many times over its centuries-old history.

Today, next to the temple are the Byzantine Museum, as well as the Archaeological Museum. The exhibitions of both museums are of interest to history buffs. The exhibits in their collections belong to completely different eras.

Also, while in Parikia, pay attention to the ruins of the Temple of Apollo. On a mountainside near Parikia is monastery of the Saints of the Unmercenary. This monastery is located in a picturesque area with beautiful panoramic views.

In the village of Castro you can visit the ruins of an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Demeter, as well as a small old   Church of Saints Constantine and Helena.
