During a significant earthquake in 1933, the city of Kos was destroyed. This sad event contributed to the discovery of   a number of archaeological finds from antiquity to the period of the reign of the Byzantine Empire.

Now in the Kos area you can see the Temple of Hercules, whose construction dates back to the 3rd century AD, as well as the ruins of an ancient forum ... In addition, there are the ruins of the temple of Aphrodite, as well as an ancient Roman villa in the Pompeian style, built in the 3rd century BC.

The house has been preserved in the surprise is not bad, it has such elements as mosaic floors, decorative wall decoration in the form of murals, three swimming pools, and three courtyards surrounded by columns.

On the territory of Kos, there is also a medieval knight's castle, built in the 15th century. In it the knights-johannites were defending themselves against the advancing Ottoman troops.

Archaeological Museum, located on the island, in the period from 1933 acquired many valuable exhibits. Here you can see a statue of Hippocrates dating back to the 4th century BC, as well as skillfully made mosaics of the great doctors and military leaders of antiquity.
