Jan Sibelius Museum of Music is a museum in Turku, the only one in Finland with a similar theme.

The museum was opened thanks to scientific and research activities of the professor of ethnology and musicology of the Academy Abo Otto Andersson. He made an attempt to collect and organize materials about music and composers, which led to the formation of the museum. Also in 1928 the professor donated his collection of musical instruments to the new museum.

Until 1949, the museum was called the Musical-Historical meeting of the Abo Academy ”. In the early 1930s. to the musicology department The Academy received materials about the life and work of the composer Jan Sibelius, among which were his manuscripts that belonged to a friend of the composer the writer Adolf Paum. In 1949, Sibelius allowed the museum to be named after him.

The new building for the Jan Sibelius Music Museum was designed by Finnish architect Voldemar Beckman in 1968.
