In 1622, the emperor granted the famous Hungarian Esterhazy family the rule of Eisenstadt. After 60 years, Prince Paul established his own parish – a small chapel was built outside the city on a hill. At the beginning of the 18th century, ten chapels, eighteen altars, numerous niches, grottoes, stairs were built on this hill, which later became known as Kalvarienberg. Also, 200 Baroque sculptures were installed here. One of the most interesting sights of the monastery is Haydn's mausoleum, built by the architect Franz Krau. The mausoleum contains a sarcophagus made of white marble, which is the work of the sculptor Oscar Tide. The sarcophagus is adorned with the top notes of the Emperor's Hymn.
