Rating: 7,7/10 (1847 votes) St Mary's Abbey is an abbey founded around the 11th century by William II. At the time, the abbey was one of the most powerful and wealthy in England.
In the XII-XIII centuries. the abbey was the third largest and most important, but Henry VIII, who came to the throne, initiated the reformation of the church, as a result of which the abbey was destroyed as unnecessary. Today, only ruins remain of the Abbey of St. Mary, but very beautiful and majestic. This is a large fragment of the wall, located in the center of a picturesque park, and barely visible remains of the foundation.
