Rating: 7,5/10 (100 votes) The Ustra fortress is a medieval fortress located in the Rhodope Mountains, in the Kardzhali region, at an altitude of 1,114 meters. The fortress was built in the 10th century to protect trade routes. According to archaeological data, the fortress was taken by the Bulgarian king Simeon the First, but later passed to Byzantium.
