The Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas in Khanty-Mansiysk is the only state "oil" museum in Russia. The museum is located in a building that is considered one of the city's architectural landmarks.

The history of this unique museum began in September 1993, when the head of the administration of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug ordered the establishment of a regional Geological and Mineralogical Museum. The Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas received its modern name in June 1996.

The main exhibition ideas of the museum were determined by Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences Vladimir Ilyich Shpilmanov and geophysicist, one of the discoverers of the world's largest Samotlor field, Leonid Nikolaevich Kabaev.

The museum received its first visitors in 2003. Currently, there are about 34 thousand exhibits in the museum funds, which were collected from the first days of the museum's foundation.

The collection of the museum consists of a variety of geological items. Here you can learn about the history of geological prospecting and all stages of the development of the oil and gas industry in Western Siberia. All premises have unique technological equipment, thanks to which museum items are in conditions of open access for guests.

The most valuable collections of the Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas in Khanty-Mansiysk are: a collection of meteorites, a mineralogical collection, a unique collection of cores from the Berezovskaya well, as well as memorial items of famous figures of the oil and gas industry, personal funds of oil workers and geologists, made a huge contribution to the development of the oil and gas complex.

The Museum of Geology, Oil and Gas has an archive, a public library, a cinema, an internet classroom and a shop.
