It was erected at the request of the Earl of Burlington and his friend William Kent, with whom he studied the history of architecture. Geographically, the villa is located in the suburb of London - Chiswick, named so because of the local residents' addiction to cheese making. The construction of the palace is preceded by history. The owner of the palace, the Earl of Burlington, grew up in a peer house and from an early age had a keen interest in the arts. He chose the Italian architect Andrea Palladio as his idol. Together with William Kent, the earl studied the manuscripts of the famous architect, as well as the works of Inigo Jones, who is considered a follower of Palladio. This is how Burlington became a Palladian who introduced this architectural style to England. And the first building which he took up, became his own palace. When building Chiswick House, the count relied on the style of the outstanding villa La Rotonda, built by Palladio in Italy, in the city of Vicenza. Experts agree that Chiswick House is the best surviving example of neo-Palladian style in London. Meanwhile, the palace is not an ordinary building. It has no bedrooms, a dining room, or any other living rooms, and was intended for the art collection compiled by Burlington. In addition, the Masonic symbolism seen here may suggest that Chiswick House could have been a meeting place for members of the Masonic lodge, which was a member of the Earl. Burlington died in 1753 and the villa was inherited by the Duke of Devonshire. He asked architect James Wyeth to take care of the palace. He, in turn, completed an outbuilding to the palace, which were later demolished, and the garden pavilions that have survived to this day. In addition to the villa itself, of great interest is a large landscape park laid out around it. It was in the 18th century that such a concept as an English landscape park appeared in the country. and the austere geometries of a regular park in Chiswick gave way to natural lines that were allowed to be ornate. Walking around Chiswick House, tourists can enjoy the paths that wind through the garden past picturesque lawns and ponds. The park, created by nature itself, has become a new phenomenon in art. And landscape parks in Russia, Europe and America appeared precisely thanks to the Chiswick House park. In 1913, a huge greenhouse was laid out in the park, which is 96 meters high. This greenhouse is considered to be hardly the largest in all of England. Its main pride is the collection of camellias, which has been carefully replenished for more than three centuries. Another popular greenhouse plant is Middlemist red, a flower that is represented on our planet in two copies, one of them grows in New Zealand, the second in the garden of Chiswick House. The flower was brought to England from China, where it was completely exterminated. In addition to art and nature lovers, fans of The Beatles come to Chiswick House, as it is known that video materials for their compositions"PaperbackWriter" and"Rain".
