City gallery in Lenbach's house – Munich art museum. Located in the villa of Franz von Lenbach. This villa is a monument and protected by the state. It was designed by Gabriel von Seidel from 1887 to 1891. The building was rebuilt twice – Hans Gressel in 1927-1929  , Heinrich Volbert and Rudolf Thonessen in 1969-1972.

The museum exhibits mainly the works of Munich artists of the 18th-19th centuries: Jan Polak, Christoph Schwarz, Georges Lemere, Wilhelm von Kobel, Johann Georg von Dillis, Karl Rothmann, Karl Spitzweg, Eduard Schleich, Karl Theodor von Piloti, Franz von Stuck, Franz von Lenbach, Friedrich August Wilglbach von Kaelbach, Friedrich August Wilgbach von Kaulbach Hans Thom. The north wing of the museum houses works by 19th century artists from the Munich school. The museum gained international fame thanks to the collection of works created by the Blue Horseman art group, which included Alexey Jawlensky, Wassily Kandinsky, Gabriela Munter, Franz Marc, August Macke, Marianne Verevkina and Paul Klee. It also hosts temporary exhibitions. They acquaint visitors with significant trends in painting, with the work of contemporary artists, domestic and foreign.

The museum in the Lenbach house houses installations and collections of works by such masters as Franz Ackermann, Dennis Adams, Christian Boltanski, James Coleman, Lovis Corinth, Gunther Forg, Gunther Frutrunk, Katharina Grosse, Michael Heitzer, Anselm Kiefer, Maurizio Nannucci, Arnulf Rainer, Gerhard Richter, Michael Seilstorfer, Katharina Sieverding, Andy Warhol, Lawrence Weiner and many others. Since spring 2009 the museum has been closed for major renovations.
