Rating: 8,3/10 (101 votes) Tennyson Monument is a monument located in the western part of the Isle of Wight, at its highest point. From here a magnificent view of the surroundings opens.
The monument is dedicated to Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the fourth of twelve children, born in 1809. He was a popular poet of his time and was friends with Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. The poet died in 1892 and was buried in the Poets' Corner of Westminster Abbey.
Climbing a narrow steep path to the monument, visitors find themselves on a platform from which you can see almost the entire island. On the left side of the monument there is a car park, next to which, in turn, there is an abandoned quarry.
