The Tiberius Bridge is an ancient Roman bridge, built in the 1st century AD
The construction of the bridge was started under the Emperor Augustus and finished under the Emperor Tiberius. The bridge is presented in the form of a five-arch structure, thrown over the Marecchia. In 580, the Goths practically destroyed the bridge, work on its restoration was carried out under Pope Innocent the Eleventh in 1680.
In ancient times, special `` breakwaters '' were attached to the pillars of the bridge, which slowed down the flow water. This was necessary because the Marecchia was then more full-flowing.
