Church of Thomas, aka the Church of St. Thomas – the main Protestant place of worship in Strasbourg.

The first buildings related to this temple appeared here in the 9th century. The wooden church, blessed to become a cathedral, stood for a little over a century and burned down in a great fire in 1007. Almost two centuries later, it was decided to build a new one on the site of the burnt church. The general plan of construction at that time looked more like a fortress than a temple. The construction took a long time. The reason for this was the lack of funds, and the persecution of Protestants, and the numerous wars with Prussia. The temple was completed only in 1521. After 4 years, the Church was officially handed over to the Protestants.

Today the temple is active, it hosts numerous church holidays and other services that are different from Catholic ones. Tourists are allowed into the temple and are always welcome to numerous pilgrims from other countries of the world.
