Rating: 8,5/10 (5032 votes)  The Royal Palace of Naples is the main residence of the Bourbon monks of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. The palace was erected around the Piazza del Plebiscito on the site, where previously there was a palace built for Philip III according to the design of Domenico Fontana. Construction began in 1600 and lasted over 50 years. It was here in 1717 that the Russian Tsarevich Alexei hid before his arrest. In the 18th century, reconstruction works were carried out in the castle, during which the building acquired its present appearance. The robots were carried out under the direction of Luigi Vanvitelli. Equestrian statues from the Anichkov Bridge brought from St. Petersburg were installed on both sides of the garden gate. In front of the western facade there are statues of the greatest rulers in the history of the kingdom. Since 1814, the main part of the building is occupied by the National Library. The wings of the palazzo house various institutions. Also, among the other premises of the palace, it is worth highlighting the Hall of Hercules, the Throne Room and the Central Hall, which form the Museum of Historical Apartments of the Palazzo Reale. The walls of the building house the works of such famous masters as Guercino, Mattia Preti, Titian, Luca Giordano, Spagnoletto, Andrea Vaccaro and Massimo Station.
