The University of Trier is one of the oldest public higher education institutions in Germany. The university was founded in 1473. In 1798, the university was closed for a long period, until 1970. Currently, the university houses six faculties – pedagogy, psychology, philosophy and psychobiology; linguistics, media studies, German studies, literary studies, computational linguistics and phonetics; Egyptology, ancient archeology, papyrology, history and political science; economics, mathematics, information economics, informatics and sociology; jurisprudence; geosciences, geography.
