The University of Genoa is one of the largest universities in Italy. The building of the University is located on the Italian Riviera in the Liguria region.
The University was founded in 1471. It consists of independent campuses that are located in different areas of Genoa. The main building of the University was built in 1640 by the architect Bartolomeo Bianco and today is an architectural monument. A new complex for the faculties of mathematics, physics, computer science and chemistry was built in the years 1980-1990 in Valletta Puggia. The Faculty of Economics was housed in the port's old docks, which were renovated in 1996. The botanical garden of the University, located in the central part of the city next to the main building of the University, territorially occupies 1 hectare.
