St. Peter's Church is the main building of St. Peter's Abbey. This is the most magnificent and luxurious church in Salzburg. The church was originally a Romanesque basilica, the front portal of which was built in 1245. The inner side aisles of the church are painted in the Rococo style. Above the porch, there is a beautiful arch, created in the 12th century. In the 1770s, the interior of the church was richly decorated in the spirit of that time (late Baroque). At the entrance to the chapel, there is a manger with biblical scenes of the Massacre of Infants and the Flight to Egypt. Over the centuries, the church has been rebuilt several times. Until now, only the first floor has remained from the very first building. The church is also famous for the fact that it was here in 1783 that the world-famous Mozart Mass in B minor sounded for the first time. The main part of the soprano in the piece was performed by wife of Mozart Constance. The composer himself often played the organ here, conducted the choir and orchestra. Mass in B minor is now performed annually during the Summer Music Festival.
