The Arc de Triomphe is an ancient architectural structure, which is well-known and the most striking monument of the city. It was created by the imperial order of Maria Theresa in honor of the joyful event - the marriage of the Spanish princess Maria Ludovica and her son Leopold II in 1765. In addition to this event, the reliefs of the arch reflect the sad event - the death of Emperor Franz I (husband of Maria Theresa). The Arc de Triomphe is made of stone. The material for the construction was taken from the ancient structure of the gate, which stood earlier on this place. The construction was supervised by Constantin Walter, and the marble reliefs of the arch were created by Baltasar Moll. On the north side, the reliefs of the arch show a sad event, and on the south side - a joyful one.
